$\pi$: The Magic Ratio

This is another one of these things that will blow your mind.

The ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter will always equal the same number, regardless of how small or large the circle is.

We call that number $\pi$

(pronounced "pie" but spelled "pi.")

$$\frac{circumference}{diameter} = \pi$$

Most Common Approximations

$\pi$ is a number that you can never accurately express, at least not fully. It's an irrational number, meaning its digits go on forever in no discernible pattern. But there are two very common approximations:

$$3.14$$

and

$$\frac{22}{7}$$
